Ali Khan arrived in Australia at the tender age of 17 after fleeing from the discrimination meted out against the minority Hazara community (to which he belonged) in Afghanistan. This year Ali was awarded the “Monash Asylum Seeker Bursary” scholarship and he began to pursue his Bachelor in Arts and Law. His initial few weeks were tough as he had to study in English, which was not his first language. His hard work and perseverance helped him transform his life, and Ali spends a lot of his time tutoring VCE students from asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds. We commend him for his achievement.
