Refugee Women’s Champion

Alia Sultana is a Hazara woman who is inspiring her community in Australia as well as being an uplifting leader and entrepreneur. She is the vice-president of The Australian Hazara Women’s Friendship Network (AHWFN), an organisation that she started together with other Hazara women living in Melbourne. Since its foundation Alia has dedicated her time as a volunteer to support newly-arrived Hazara women to start a new life by translating documents and helping them to access the basic necessities they require.

They run classes with English, citizenship, driving and computer courses for Hazara women in the community. Besides this, Alia is the creator of AMI Catering and she joined SisterWorks Inc., a Melbourne based organisation dedicated to supporting migrant and refugee women to become entrepreneurs. Through her passion for food and business skills she is creating awareness around the need for supporting refugees’ talents in Australia. She is a true inspiration to refugee women and the broader community.
