JOHN GULZARI
Outstanding Leader
John Gulzari is a human rights activist based in Dandenong. He has over ten years experience with community development. Gulzari was born in Afghanistan of the minority Hazara community. His family fled violence to Pakistan in the 1990s and paid people smugglers to get John to Indonesia and on to a boat, arriving in Australia in 1999. He has won several volunteering awards from City of Greater Dandenong. He is the first Afghan refugee to run for the Victorian Parliament.
