Rahmutullah Sharifi and Najib Amin fled certain death from the Taliban in Afghanistan fifteen years ago. They were among 438 people loaded onto a wooden vessel in Indonesia, heading for Christmas Island. Life wasn’t easy after they arrived in Australia as jobs required resumes and neither of them had one. After working as fruit pickers and broiler makers for a couple of years, the pair decided to investigate a car wrecking yard that was for sale. They ended up buying the yard through their savings and a loan.
The pair then started the “Northside Auto Recyclers” in Brisbane. Within four years they were able to repay the loan and now own a second wrecking yard. Their hard work paid off and they were able to bring their families to Australia and today lead happy lives.
